Happy National Pet Day! Today we love our furry friends a little extra, and appreciate how much love they give us. It’s also a day to encourage rescuing pets from shelters, and consider the welfare of animals everywhere. We offer a personalized paw prints awareness ribbon to recognize your pet. These pins can be customized with a name, date or message. Encourage others to adopt from shelters, take extra special care of their animals, and always be grateful for the love our animals give. Celebrate National Pet Day and consider rescuing another animal to love.

Why Adopt a Pet? You’ll be Saving a Life!

Many animals that you find in your local animal shelter have been rescued from unfortunate and sometimes traumatic circumstances. Some were abandoned, mistreated, neglected, or unable to be cared for by their previous owners long-term. Luckily, the caring shelter staff nurses these animals back to health. Further, if they are sick or injured, staff prepares them for a new and better life as they await their forever home. As a result, when you adopt an animal, you’re saving their life. You’re also providing them a safe, stable, and loving home. In some cases, you may truly be saving an animal’s life. Adopt them if you can. Some shelters are forced to euthanize animals that do not get adopted.

Caring for An Animal has Health Benefits – National Pet Day Information

Studies have found that keeping a pet as a companion has a variety of benefits regarding a person’s health. Although not all scientifically proven, research shows that pet owners, specifically, experienced:

  • Reduced stress and anxiety
  • Better sleep
  • More relaxation
  • Lower risk of heart attack
  • Reduced allergies to other pets, ragweed, grass, and dust mites

Adopting Saves you Time and Money

In addition, when you adopt a pet from a breeder, the price is often significantly higher than the adoption fee your local shelter asks. Additionally, many animal shelters handle procedures like microchipping, spaying or neutering. Shelters also vaccinate before an animal goes to their new home. Cats, for example, are often house-trained at a young age. For example, it’s likely that the cat you adopt will already know how to use a litter box. This is regardless of whether they are an adult cat or a kitten that has been trained by the shelter’s staff. Dogs and cats both need to be rescued. At shelters there are often bunnies, and perhaps other types of animals, too. Go take a look!

We love all our rescues. This post is in honor of Buster, Stitches, Penny and Rook. We are so lucky to have you.
