National Down Syndrome Awareness Month

National Down Syndrome Awareness Month

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, a chance to spread awareness. During the month of October, we celebrate people with Down syndrome and make others aware of their abilities and accomplishments. It’s not about celebrating disabilities, it’s about celebrating abilities.

Down Syndrome Awareness Month encourages those with Down Syndrome to speak out to educate others. People with Down syndrome and their loved ones can spread awareness about Down syndrome by going to their local Buddy Walk® and speaking out about their needs.

The Buddy Walk® was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.
