National Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week
Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week, observed in April, focuses on the majority of all head and neck cancers. This is a time to increase awareness of oral, head and neck cancer, promote the need for a cure after diagnosis, and spur advocacy on behalf of those suffering with the emotional, financial and physical burden of oral, head and neck cancers.
Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week stresses that, when found in the early stages of development, oral cancers have an 80-90 percent survival rate. Unfortunately, the majority of oral cancers are discovered at a late stage, when the cancer has metastasized to another location. Since oral cancer can grow without producing noticeable pain or symptoms, early detection is key.
The awareness color for Oral, Head and Neck Cancer, is Red and White Pinstripes.
