Pain Awareness Month is observed in September and sponsored by the American Chronic Pain Association. In 2011, a coalition of groups and organizations established September as a month to recognize the chronic pain community. Pain Awareness Month increases awareness about how pain affects families, communities, the nation and the individual while also educating caregivers and healthcare professionals about various treatment options available to pain patients.
Pain Awareness Month unifies the chronic pain population through an empowering approach such as events, virtual campaigns, visual awareness initiatives and social media activities. Throughout the entire month of September, awareness campaigns are carried out by patient-centered organizations and people living with pain.
