Women's Equality Day, observed in August, is a day proclaimed each year by the United States President to commemorate the granting of the vote to women. Women in the United States were granted the right to vote without the compulsory requirement to submit to possible conscription on August 26, 1920, when the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution was certified as law.
Women’s Equality Day not only commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, but also calls attention to women’s continuing efforts toward full equality. Workplaces, libraries, organizations, and public facilities now participate with Women’s Equality Day programs, displays, video showings, or other activities.
The awareness color for International Women's Day and Women's Equality is Purple.
