Movember for Prostate Cancer Awareness – What does Movember mean?

A couple of Duke University medical students held a competitive fundraiser for Prostate Cancer. This is the picture of one of the med students who raised money for prostate cancer using our Personalized Cause light blue pin engraved with Movember. Light blue represents men’s health causes, such as prostate cancer.

Movember, the month formerly known as November, is when brave and selfless men around the world grow a moustache, and women step up to support them. This is all done to raise awareness and funds for men’s health. The causes associated with Movember are specifically prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. The Movember Foundation runs the Movember charity event, housed at The goal of Movember is to “change the face of men’s health.”

Movember and Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the United States, after skin cancer. It is the second leading cause of death from cancer in men. Prostate cancer occurs more often in African-American men than in white men. African-American men with prostate cancer are more likely to die from the disease than white men with prostate cancer.

Almost all prostate cancers are adenocarcinomas (cancers that begin in cells that make and release mucus and other fluids). Prostate cancer often has no early symptoms. Advanced prostate cancer can cause men to urinate more often or have a weaker flow of urine, but these symptoms can also be caused by benign prostate conditions.

Personalized Cause offers personalized awareness ribbon pins to call attention to your specific cause. We also offer non-personalized pins, fabric ribbons, and KNOW MORE wristbands.
